What a Job...
From walking around in smoke filled air to "losing" 13 students, what a summer this has been... If you had told me last year that I was gonna be an Orientation Leader, I would've stared at you and said that it wouldn't be my type of job. But turns out it was. While different factors (the need for a summer job with good pay that wasn't boring plus a recommendation) had me apply for the job, I got a whole lot more out of it. I met a new family, got to meet a lot of amazing people, both incoming students and other co-workers. The experiences I had were so much better than what I had thought and more importantly, the people I've met and relationships I have made gave me a new family at FYP. The people I met there were with me through the fun/stressful parts and the hard parts when I faced tough choices. Whether it was pushing the cart at 10AM to set up, hanging out after work, or M-Breaking, I knew I had a place there this summer and people to be with. After a year where I wasn't entirely sure about how I would fit in at UW, FYP and this summer gave me exactly what I needed to close out my freshman year.
Tough Decisions
Sometimes, life doesn't go as planned. Some are positive changes, such as my OL job, but others can be rough. Such as getting rejected from both the majors you wanted to get into. Getting rejected from both Computer Science and Human Centered Design & Engineering was a shock for me. And it made me re-evaluate some of my life choices. One major decision that I had to make was to decide whether or not the RA role would possibly interfere with improving my chances in getting into my majors. Due to the high level of the classes I needed to take, I had to make the tough decision to not continue with the RA role this year, though it is something I am definitely thinking about re-applying for next year.
